DOVO Football Club is a proud and ambitious club from Veenendaal, founded in 1933. The club has a rich history in Dutch amateur football and is known for its sporting achievements, strong youth development program, and dedicated supporters. The first team plays at a high amateur level and attracts a large fan base at home games. DOVO strives to be a modern, forward-thinking club, where digitalization and efficiency are becoming increasingly important themes.

The challenge: saying goodbye to the physical membership card

Like many traditional sports clubs, VV DOVO used physical membership cards for access and registration for years. But the board wanted to modernize: less paperwork, faster communication, and above all, a more user-friendly alternative for members. An online search led them to Digipas, a digital solution that promises every user always has their membership card digitally at hand—directly available via an app.

Preliminary phase and advice

Before VV DOVO made the decision, the board contacted fellow club VV Noordwijk, which was already using Digipas. They gained insights into practical experiences, success factors, and potential pitfalls. This information gave the DOVO board the confidence to further explore Digipas as a permanent solution.

Implementation: from test phase to rollout

After the season, DOVO began a test phase. A select group of members used the app during several of the first team’s home games. The results were positive: no technical issues, ease of use, and satisfied users. This gave the green light for a full rollout.

All members received clear instructions by email about activating their digital membership card. It was emphasized that the card is primarily used for:

  • Access to DOVO 1 home games
  • Registration for supporters’ buses to away matches

Children up to and including 14 years of age have free access to competitions and do not need to activate a digital pass.

First experiences in use

The first matches with the new system took some getting used to. Although the app allows members to check in and out, not everyone used this function consistently right away. Stewards sometimes had to improvise. In case of connection problems, they switched to the simple “Check” mode, which ensured continuity.

However, within a few matches, the process went more smoothly. Stewards and members became familiar with the system, making access control faster and more reliable.

Positive cooperation with Digipas

VV DOVO finds the collaboration with Digipas particularly pleasant. Questions and suggestions from the board were quickly addressed and implemented. DOVO praises the customer-focused and collaborative nature of Digipas, an experience shared by VV Noordwijk. The open communication and smooth implementation contribute to their confidence in the solution.

Key Benefits and Features

One of the most important advantages for VV DOVO is the user-friendly membership management via the web portal. Members can be easily added or deactivated without any intervention from the supplier. This saves a lot of time.

The app also features a communication module for sending messages to members. This feature is currently underutilized due to limited visibility and user notification settings, but the potential for targeted announcements is certainly there.

Future perspective

VV DOVO is currently satisfied with the current functionality of Digipas. The club will continue to use the app for member management and access control and will periodically evaluate whether new features offer added value.
